Austin Real Estate
Nestled in the rolling Texas hill country, Austin rests on the banks of the Colorado River along the Balcones Fault. As the 4th largest city in Texas, Austin is located near the center of the state and it’s a quick road trip on interstate 35 to Dallas or San Antonio. Much of the city sits on limestone rock and boasts spectacular views from the ledges of Mount Bonnell. Residents and water-sport enthusiasts enjoy the comforts of local reservoirs Lady Bird Lake, Lake Austin, Lake Travis and Walter E. Long Lake. Nomadic Native American tribes first roamed the area until the earliest settlers established it as the village of Waterloo - which was soon chosen as the Republic of Texas Capital in 1839. As the village began to grow, the name changed in honor of the “Father of Texas,” Stephen F. Austin. The Texas State Capitol building was completed in 1888 and at the time, was the 7th largest building in the world. With the turn of the century, Austin flourished with new schools, colleges and universities raising the bar for education. After World War II, Austin’s first research laboratories and think tanks were built. Economic prosperity ensued and the city enjoyed many new entertainment outlets like public pools and movie theaters. In the 1970’s the city birthed its music scene with the help from Texas country music icons like Willie Nelson. Today, the city breathes with life and has become a melting pot of successful educators, politicians, musicians and innovators. Not just the 16th largest city in the United States, Austin has grown into a cultural and economic highlight, having much notoriety for being hip, yet an established place to call home. Austin real estate has become quite desirable, not just within the state, but recognized by people all over the country seeking a thriving social scene that somehow eludes the congestion of other metropolitan areas. Though the city may be growing, residents are highly engaged with a focus on fitness and wellness, as well as the preservation of locally owned, small businesses in lieu of large national and global rivals. As Austin continues to flourish, the city anchors its success with a focal point on maintaining and nurturing its residents’ quality of life. |
