Winter Park Hotels

It’s no secret that Winter Park, Colorado is considered one of the country’s premiere vacation destinations. With its sparkling mountain peaks and vibrant visitors, this getaway location offers something for everyone year-round. Always inviting, Winter Park hotels always enjoy a wide variety of guests, all of which find themselves there for different reasons. No matter what those might be, it is certain that Winter Park has much to offer.

Commonly referred to as “Colorado’s Highest,” Winter Park is able to make a unique claim as having the country’s highest elevation of any incorporated town at 12,060 feet above sea level. First settlers of the region were brought in the early twenties during the construction of the Moffat Tunnel. A local merchant named “Doc” Graves recognized the site for its pure beauty and began development with the construction of 26 tourist cabins, a café and service station. Fortunately for Graves, he had the foresight to power his buildings by way of a water wheel that was installed at the nearby Vasquez Creek – which contributed to a rare economic prosperity during the ominous Great Depression. As buzz soon grew about the mountain settlement – then called Hideaway Park – visitors came and soon the Winter Park Ski Resort opened its doors in 1939. Composed of three interconnected peaks, the resort enjoyed year after year of successful skiing and lodging. Finally, on August 1, 1978 Winter Park was officially founded.

Though the town is mostly regarded for its skiing popularity, Winter Park has evolved into a year-round attraction as well. Set in the Rockies, Winter Park visitors enjoy miles of spectacular hiking trails and bike paths that twist throughout the landscape. Some patrons take in the sites on horseback and others take their experience to new heights high above in a hot air balloon ride. Outside of the slopes visitors can find much to do in the town center as well. Grab a bite to eat or simply enjoy window-shopping at the specialty stores lining the downtown streets. Many find hidden treasures in shops filled with handcrafted southwestern jewelry and Native American artworks. Locals also host outdoor concerts and festivals – including the Annual Snow Mountain Disc Golf tournament.

There is certainly no argument that Winter Park brings a unique atmosphere with much to offer. Many flock to the mountain location for the charming surroundings and enjoy comforting stays at the always-inviting Winter Park hotels. Whatever the reason may be, visitors are sure to enjoy a pleasant and unique experience rarely found any place else.
